as a Teacher in the
Middle East.
I lived in the Middle East as a child for 3.5 yrs and then went back and worked as an adult as a teacher of Maths / I.T and Music. I dress in Arabic style for the talk and give my personal experiences of teaching as a Christian in a Muslim country, Ramadan experience/cultural differences, amusing stories of things that happened, sleeping in the desert on the millennium, shopping in the Souqs and learning how to haggle, learning to write Arabic, being abandoned in the desert with camels, breaking the tourist barriers, fishing in the Gulf as the sun rises to name a few.
Talk duration 45 minutes to 1 hour. Talks can be adapted for long or shorter times to sort your requirements. Talks in excess of an hour will incur additional charges.
- Hammer Dulcimer
- Talk and Concert. The Hammer Dulcimer is the predecessor of the Piano. I give a 45 minute to 1 hr talk/concert on the Dulcimer explaining the history of the instrument, how it is played and how I came across it. Some personal amusing stories of things that have happened and responses to me playing it etc. I play a variety of classical/folk/church music alongside sing a-long and popular tunes using different types of Hammers which are explained and passed around the audience as well as the Dulcimer itself so the audience can see them close up.
I have played the Dulcimer for 15 yrs and the Piano for 30 yrs. I currently teach the Dulcimer and the Piano. I am a member of the Nonsuch Dulcimer Club and perform solo concerts on both.
I’m also a tuned Percussionist (Glockenspiel/ Xylophone / Tubular Bells etc) and Timpanist. I have played Percussion from school through to University of Portsmouth Orchestra and im now a member of the Cobham brass band.
I have played for Virginia Bottomley's Christmas Cracker Party, Numerous dinner parties and private functions, Eleven weddings and approx 80 concerts in care homes as a form of music therapy and entertainment.
- Clarsach Harp
- Talk and Concert. Recently I have taken up the Clarsach Harp and now play with the International Harp Ensemble we toured France in 2012 in April 2013 we played at the Edinburgh Harp Festival and will be touring America in October 2013. We were recorded for BBC Songs of Praise which was shown on 8th Sept 2013.
I perform solo concerts on both the Dulcimer and Harp.
I sing Soprano and have been in numerous choirs since early childhood alongside bands, ensemble and orchestras. I am available for weddings/ dinner parties/ birthdays and all special occasions and also offer private tuition. Details and prices on request.

- Experiences as a Sub Lieutenant
in the Royal Navy Reserves and Combined Cadet Force. I Spent 8 years as a Sub Lieutenant running camps and courses for Naval Cadet’s. I give the talk dressed in Officers Uniform and give a personal insight into my involvement with planning courses, training alongside amusing stories of things not always going according to plan/ opportunities for cadet’s/ my arduous training and why I did it. I have excellent photographs to supplement my talk.

All my talks and concerts to date have been very popular and I have enjoyed giving them immensely.
I'm currently listed in 5 WI county speaker list, regularly give talks to Probus/ retirement associations alongside private functions.
